A new vision of the world through ophthalmology
CORNEA_project is a Barcelona-based biotech company founded in 2015 by Pere del Campo and Sigfrid Borràs, two seasoned experts with over 40 years of experience in the ophthalmology industry. Since its inception, the company has been dedicated to advancing global eye health by developing cutting-edge technologies for the early diagnosis and treatment of corneal disorders. Its initial primary focus has been keratoconus, a leading cause of blindness in young people.
Throughout its journey, CORNEA_project has established strategic partnerships with prestigious public and private institutions such as Eurecat and the Maimonides Biomedical Research Institute of Cordoba (IMIBIC). It has also collaborated with renowned ophthalmological centers, including the Barraquer Ophthalmology Centre, Hospital Clínico San Carlos, and Hospital Virgen del Rocío, among others. Additionally, the company has participated in numerous innovative research projects, enabling the development of pioneering technologies based on molecular biomarkers.
CORNEA_project holds a patent for a minimally invasive method of collecting corneal epithelial samples, building a robust patent portfolio across Europe and the United States. This achievement supports a more precise and personalized approach to studying ocular diseases.
The company has spearheaded disruptive initiatives such as KERAPOC and KERASTOP, aimed at developing Point-of-Care (PoC) devices for the rapid and accurate diagnosis of corneal diseases in ophthalmology clinics. More recently, it has launched the KERASOS project, broadening its focus to Dry Eye Syndrome by identifying biomarkers to enhance both the diagnosis and treatment of this prevalent condition.
Committed to revolutionizing the field of ophthalmology, CORNEA_project continues to deliver innovative, high-tech solutions that improve the quality of life for millions of people affected by ophthalmic diseases.
